Bone Augmentation With Occlusive Barriers and Cortical Particulate Allograft in Transverse Maxillary Defects: A Pilot Study International Journal of Morphology

The centripetal resorption of maxilla is a continuous process after tooth loss. For treatment of deficient bone sites, autologous bone grafts may be used, as an alternative, biomaterials can be applied which do not require intra or extraoral donor sites. The present report describes the use of occlusive barriers and cortical particulate allograft in transverse maxillary defects. This surgical approach was performed in five patients (4 females and 1 male, aged 20 to 37 years). The objective of this study was to investigate the bone regeneration of a "gold standard" (autograft) from iliac crest associated with cellular therapy in rabbits. A bone defect was created with 10x5x5mm in 28 rabbit mandibles. The control group animals (n=14) were repaired with autograft of iliac crest and the experimental group animals (n=14) received iliac crest autograft in association with mononuclear cells from the bone marrow of the femur. Weekly radiographs were taken of the surgery region and histological analyses was performed in seven animals in each group at 15 days and in seven animals of each group at 30 days after the surgery. ABSTRACT Bone substitutes based on hydroxyapatite (HA) and Bonefill® (BO - inorganic bovine bone) associated with poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) (HA/PLGA and BO/PLGA) were evaluated concerning cytotoxicity, genotoxicity and mutagenicity as potential candidates for bone repair. The materials were developed and provided by Bionnovation Biomedical Products Ltda. Eluates from these bone substitutes were prepared for toxicity evaluations using eukaryotic cell cultures. Electrical stimulation has been used in different conditions for tissue regeneration. The aim of this study was to analyze the tissue response of defects created in rabbit skulls to electrical stimulation. Two groups were formed, each with 9 New Zealand rabbits; two 5 mm defects were made, one in each parietal, with one being randomly filled with autogenous bone extracted as particles and the other maintained only with blood clotting. The aim of this study was to evaluate histologically the effect of two biomaterials, a biomaterial derived from porcine Urinary submucosa Bladder Matrix (UBM) and beta-TriCalcium Phosphate (ß-TCP), on bone defects. Twenty male New Zealand rabbits were used; the models were divided in two groups: the UBM group; the ß-TCP group, and a Negative Control (NC) group. Five-mm defects were created in the femur of each model and then the different biomaterials were set in place depending on each group. Evaluation of inorganic and organic bone components after application of an apatite-coated Al2O3 implants as scaffolds for bone repair BABT

The aim of this work was to study the influence of uncoated and apatite-coated Al2O3 implants on bone regeneration after 30 days of surgery in New Zealand white rabbits. Twelve samples of Al2O3 implants were prepared and half of them (n = 6) were apatite-coated by the modified biomimetic method. Three experimental groups were tested as Group C - control, surgery procedure without cerami c implant, Group Ce - uncoated Al 2O3 implants (n = 6) and Group CeHA - apatite-coated Al2O3 implants (n = 6). The mineralization of the Al2O3 implants was analyzed in bone fragments using FT-Raman spectroscopy. Histological Evaluation of Bone Regeneration Means Freeze Dried Bone Allograft (FDBA) in Post Exodontia Sockets International Journal of Morphology

Within oral rehabilitation alveolar ridge preservation following extraction is important. This research study shows a histological, histochemical and histomorphometrical evaluation in two cases of post extraction ridge-socket preservation performed with FDBA. In two patients dental extraction procedures were performed and sockets were immediately filled with FDBA. Six months later a biopsy of grafted area was obtained and rehabilitated through dental implant. Grafted bone samples were treated for histological and histochemical analysis. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a biocompatibilidade e a osseointegração de compósitos de hidroxiapatita (HA), policaprolactona (PCL) e alendronato (ALN) em defeitos ósseos produzidos no olécrano de coelhos. Trinta e seis coelhos foram distribuídos em quatro grupos, recebendo como tratamento: (1) compósito de HA (49,5%), PCL (49,5%) e ALN (1%); (2) HA (50%) e PCL (50%); (3) PCL (100%); e (4) solução salina 0,9%. The objective of this study was to evaluate whether demineralized bovine bone (Gen-ox®) alters bone neoformation in rats submitted to alcoholism. Forty male rats were separated into two groups of 20 rats and distributed as follows: Group E1, which received 25% ethanol and a surgical cavity filled only by a blood clot, and Group E2, which received 25% ethanol and a surgical cavity filled with Gen-ox®. The animals were euthanized at 10, 20, 40 and 60 days after surgery and necropsy was performed. We aimed to demonstrate that a Thymbra spicata var. intricata extract could induce proliferation, differentiation, and modulate the immune responses of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). Bone is a unique tissue which could regenerate completely after injury rather than heal itself with a scar. Compared with other tissues the difference is that, during bone repairing and regeneration, after the inflammatory phase the mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are recruited to the injury site and differentiate into either chondroblasts or osteoblasts precursors, leading to bone repairing and regeneration. Besides these two precursors, the MSCs can also differentiate into adipocyte precursors, skeletal muscle precursors and some other mesodermal cells.
